Today it was a transvestite/cross dresser getting some parts off of a V6 Altima. Miniskirt, high heels, wig, makeup - the works. Whatever - let your freak flag fly. Nice enough guy, but you’d think he’d dress a little more appropriate for climbing around under cars, especially since this PnP lot is not paved, but just has  coarse gravel.

This was the first time in a long time that I’ve seen an SVX. Given the more upscale nature of that car is guess that the green paint is not original. The engine looked complete and would probably be a great engine to toss into a Vanagon, but I think I’ve seen only two out here in the last eight years, but that’s more than the number of SVXs I’ve spotted.

They did have two Mazda5s, but they were all the previous generation and thus didn’t have the parts I was looking for. One did have a nice ceiling mounted DVD setup, but that’s not really something I could actually use. If I can scrounge up $2 I might cross the river and check out another yard, but it’s not critical. My busted taillight has lasted this long, so a little longer won’t matter. The damage is relatively minor, and if I don’t look for it I wouldn’t notice, but I know it’s there...

I’ll need to find an excuse to go next week. I’m off but it’ll be raining all week.

Maybe the mini skirt junkyard trip wasn’t planned. On your way to work and the Altima’s alternator   decides it doesn’t want to turn anymore, but you’ve got enough juice in the battery to run over to pull a part and a few tools in the trunk.

Apparently he’s been working on his neighbor’s car for a few days, and this was not the first day that he was at this lot pulling parts from this particular wreck . He’s recently divorced, not able to visit his grandkids and is in total IDGAF mode. This is the new version of himself.

And this shouldn’t come as surprise, but don’t do drugs...

Not sure what the market is like now, but about 10 years ago, used SVX windows (both the rolly-up portion and the fixed portion) and front/rear winds hields drew a pretty decent premium. As I recall, replacement glass went out of production from Subaru very shortly after the car did. The fixed part of the side windows were incredibly difficult to find.

Or you know, they could fit somewhere on the trans umbrella..

He did talk about various drugs he was doing (cocaine , meth, weed (if that’s still considered a drug these days... )) , how he made money as a dealer and how he liked dressing up since he was a teen. I didn’t get the vibe that he was trans, but if that umbrella is anything like the Kinsey scale, then yes, I guess that’s possible. I spent some time talking to him and he was an interesting but damaged (aren't we all?) character.

Ooooooooh that makes a whole lot more sense! Sounds a lot like me, save for all the drugs. :( And drugs can be a rather large factor...

Mad props for the no fucks mentality though!

I hadn’t seen one in ages, and then the day before yesterday there was a video from The Car Wizard (Weeezerd!), Tyler Hoover’s (of Hoovie’s Garage) primary mechanic and financial benefactor where he had recently acquired a BB6.

I’ve always liked the Prelude, at least from the second generation on, and have lots of memories of them ranging from an idiot friend doing a 5-year lease (!) on a BB6 to a weekend road trip to Vegas in a borrowed  BB4   that had enough fun and adventure to be made into a Hollywood film; that little escapade involved passing cops at triple digit speeds, strip clubs and prostitutes, credit card fraud, heavy drinking (and violent ejection of said drink), damage to a very nice suite, etc. Three days that shall live in infamy, at least for those of us who can remember what happened...
